Getting Lost Behind the Lens

Picking up a camera and getting so lost in what I am doing is one of the best feelings ever. It’s like when you’re a kid and you’re out with your friends, playing games, running around, riding your bike. Time does not exist and the words yesterday and tomorrow have no meaning. It feels wonderful.

I haven’t felt like this for a long time and perhaps I didn’t allow myself to feel like this. I tell myself that I’m an adult and I have more important things to do. But you know what? Ever since I dusted off the camera and ventured outside to take photos, the feeling has returned. I’m a lot older now than the 8 year old kid riding her white bike on a summer afternoon. But the feeling remains the same.

Just the other week, having come home from work earlier than usual, I took the camera out into the garden. And I got lost. All I could see through the lens was the sun and the plants. Time became irrelevant, responsibilities melted away.

Maybe you get this feeling while painting, fishing, playing the piano, walking your dog… Whatever it is, do it more often…it’s totally worth it!

And here is an image from my little excursion.
