Lion Gate Lodge Ceremony - Royal Botanic Garden Sydney
Florist & Stylist - Ellebore
The Royal Botanic Garden Sydney is my favourite place for weddings in Sydney.
I've photographed weddings here many, many times, across the Palm House, The Calyx, the Rose Garden & Pavilion, the Cactus Garden and Lion Gate Lodge. After photographing so many weddings in this beautiful place, I know the Gardens like the back of my hand - where the best portrait locations are, how the light moves throughout the day, and how to make the most of each season.
And that's one of the things I love about photographing weddings here. There is so much variety within the Gardens. You can move from wildflowers and winding garden paths to the structured beauty of the Rose Garden, or find tall palms and lush tropical plants in the Palm Grove. I also love the old stone steps dotted throughout the Gardens, these always give an elegant backdrop to wedding photos, no matter the weather or the season.
The Gardens also give you plenty of freedom to let the photographs unfold naturally. Rather than taking you from one predetermined portrait spot to another, I can look at the light and the surroundings on the day and know where to take you as the conditions change.
The steps of the State Library of NSW are also nearby and some couples like to wander here for a few portraits amongst the sandstone and the classical columns.
Whether you're getting married in the Palm House, celebrating at The Calyx, or having an intimate wedding at Lion Gate Lodge, the Gardens become part of the story of the day - and there is always somewhere beautiful to wander.
