Three Blue Ducks in Rosebery is one of those wedding venues that has a personality of its own. Set within the heritage Cannery warehouse in inner Sydney, the space has high ceilings, exposed beams, brick and concrete, creating an industrial backdrop that feels warm and relaxed rather than overly polished.

I've photographed weddings here since 2017, and what I love most is that the atmosphere never feels forced. Couples choose Three Blue Ducks because they want a wedding that feels relaxed, with great food, good company and plenty of time to actually enjoy being with their guests.

The courtyard is a beautiful place to begin the celebration, with ceremonies taking place outdoors before guests move inside for drinks, canapés and the reception. The indoor space has plenty of character but still feels flexible enough for couples to make it their own, whether that means keeping things simple or bringing in colour, flowers and candlelight. The venue itself is designed to flow naturally between its indoor and outdoor spaces.

I also love that couples sit together with their guests, rather than a traditional bridal table, which means the evening feels much more like one big gathering around the table.

For portraits, we can step outside the venue and wander through the neighbouring streets, bringing a more urban feel into the photographs. It creates a lovely contrast to the warmth and texture of the warehouse.

My favourite part of Three Blue Ducks weddings is what happens once the evening gets going. Everyone is sitting together, eating, talking and laughing, the room is full of noise and movement, and the photographs become less about the details of the venue and more about the people who have come together to celebrate.

That's what makes these weddings so enjoyable to photograph - they feel genuinely lived in.
